Former World Cup referee Graham Poll answers AFR’s questions
By Eric Beard
We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to ask one of England’s best ever referees, Mr. Graham Poll, a few questions thanks to the guys at the Coral Dugout. So I asked a few of questions, Oliver Sparrow (AFR Senior Contributor) asked a question, and then Mark & Yvonne (two AFR readers following us on Twitter) also submitted their questions. I thought Graham’s responses were great, and the opportunity was a timely one considering the controversy surrounding referees at this World Cup, as well as the fact that Englishman Howard Webb is refereeing the final between Spain and Germany.
Graham’s answer to my first question is above, while the answer to my second question is below. All of Graham’s answers to our questions are after the jump.
My third question, about the pressure referees must manage in the World Cup.
Graham’s response to AFR Senior Writer Oliver Sparrow’s (@oddsoccer) question about whether or not referees should be paid more.
Graham’s response to Mark’s (@markwhyy) question on realising you’ve made a poor decision.
And last, but not least, here is Graham’s response to Yvonne’s (@ydmason) question on whether or not FIFA should overturn a referee’s decision.
So thanks again to Graham Poll and the guys at the Coral Dugout for setting this up. The Coral Dugout have a Facebook page which, if you have the time, I think you should “like”. They’re also on Twitter! Why not follow them there as well?
What did you think of Graham Poll’s responses? I was personally very impressed by them, and he is certainly an AFR legend.
