David Villa as illustrated by Raymond Lourneau.
What makes this for me are the vivacious colours streaming out of the ball and Villa’s right leg. Oh, and the goatee is quite snazzy.
“Baller” - a football version of the NBA’s classic logo. Or is it a prospective, progressive movement to create a mixture of the two sports. I’m thinking David Villa would be good at whatever that would be called. One can only imagine… [Spotted over at Who Are Ya Designs]
There’s been a lot of mutual basketball-footy love lately. Currently hanging out in London, Kobe Bryant admitted in an interview with the BBC that some of his role models are Didier Drogba and Lionel Messi, and he also considered being a professional footballer. Anyway, the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard has jumped aboard the latest trend in the NBA in this advert for Adidas with Spain’s David Villa. The two exchange their respective shirts, and then Villa shows us that he actually could hold his own on the court. Impressive stuff from Maravilla.
Remember the Chilean miners that have been stuck underground for over a month? Well, David Villa, who comes from a family that worked in mines for ages, sent two signed shirts to the 33 workers who have been trapped. Spain and Barcelona’s #7 is originally from the Spanish mining region of Asturias, and he signed one Barca shirt “be strong” and wrote a message on another for Franklin Lobos, a former professional footballer stuck amongst fellow workers.
“I am part of the mining family and I share the concern of the relatives but everything will turn out well,” Villa said, as quoted by Spanish sports daily El Mundo Deportivo.
“I wanted to let them know that I am with them, that all of us who know what it’s like in a mine are with them and that the whole world is watching them and supports them.” [found at Reuters]
David Villa scored to make it 2-nil against Lichtenstein with a laser from 25-yards out. But more importantly, this goal was Villa’s 43rd for Spain, which equals Raúl’s tally and makes both generations of #7s joint leading scorers for España.
