Real Salt Lake is playing in one of the most important games in MLS history tonight in the first of a two-legged tie against C.F. Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions League final. The winner moves on to the Club World Championship. Until then, MLS has provided a “Champions League 360” video that shows how the club has been preparing amongst the Mexican sol.
European and South American fans usually get all the praise, but how about the passion in this Seattle Sounders supporter? Though, to be fair, I’m not sure what he’s so excited about as the game vs. Real Salt Lake finished nil-nil. It could be a reaction to Kasey Keller saving Robbie Findley’s first half penalty, but either way, this is borderline psychotic. So what do you see: a spirited supporter or a mental man?
“What did we come here for?”
You may have read about Real Salt Lake’s collapse against Cruz Azul, as they were winning 3-1 but ended up losing 5-4 in the CONCACAF Champions League. This video, done by the club, shows all the hard work, preparation, and tactics that the MLS side did while on their trip to Mexico. One thing that struck me was RSL coach Jason Kreis’ snippets of wisdom he wrote down the night before the match. It’s good to see such positivity coming from the American mindset such as “we didn’t come here to defend.” The future looks bright for American soccer if MLS continues with such a mindset, despite this spectacular defeat.
